just another freak-week

The past one week had been a blur.Assignments, competitions,Eid,Omar's Birthday,Antonio, tempers and the rain. One hell of a week!-both in good way and a bad way.

Pappy had flown home for Eid holidays, looking foward to home-made food, "visiting his lands" "(do i make him sound like a king?:P)and some homey noise and rackets. This time he did not come alone.Omar's Brazilian friend from Oman, Antonio too had come along.Since it was a working week here in India we couldn't take him around as much we would've liked.Antonio however seemed more than happy to be playing with Omar again.

Omar's thirteenth birthday coincided with Eid this time.So on 27th,after the little Eid party we had with just our closest friends Omar cut his cake.Later some more guests arrived.I got moody for i don't know what.I seem to always have it when Muthu,my sister, leaves for college. And she was leaving the next day.

The followong day had more in store.Saturday afternoon i returned home after an extra class. My mother was talking to someone on the phone. She was asking the caller things like "where is it held, when ..".After the call cut she told me i had just won an english language skills competition. We were to attend the function at the Tagore Hall at 5.30. Pappy had wanted the car.So we caught a bus and couple of autos to reach Vazhuthacaud and just in time to walk in receive the prize from M.M Hassan. So dramatic!.hehe. And to top that the prize was a laptop!

The next feat was due Monday,30 November. The violin competition at school.I have not done a single exam in music nor do i know how to count the beats and worst of all face an audience with something i was not that good at.I hadn't touched my violin since 10th grade.I had to drop it for the year to give more time for the board exam prep.I had been doing a crash violin refresher class for the past 2 weeks, violently and desperately trying to scratch out some tune.I got on stage with pretending to be deaf and began to play. The violin shook against my body though it did not produce any vibrato.I goofed at a few places, went out of tune and beat but managed it.After I was done I felt immense satisfaction, having got on stage after 6 years.
Few days later someone yelled through the mic that I had got a consolation prize for violin.

Yesterday saw the a year's worth of rain. After my tuition I had to wait almost an hour in the terrible rain all the more terrifying with loud thunder that shook the ground and the blinding lighting. After it had ceased a bit I hired an auto(there weren't any buses ) and got down at the next bus stop where Gogo was waiting to pick me up.I got home to see Mummy pale and panic-stricken.

I guess I have just begun to walk the rockier road of life.

Good---no, Awesome Hair Day

I had a haircut few days back.I do almost every six months but had not attracted as much attention as this time. Maybe it wouldnt have been sucha big hype were I back in Muscat. But people here in Kerala just can't take it if a 16 year old girl has her hair cropped off below her ears.I guess they have not seen many. The perfect girl here is one who has waist length oiled hair neatly braided and tied with ribbons.Excuse me! So as I walked into school it felt a movie with a hundred pairs of eyes staring at me.Hundred pairs of wide open shocked.,horrified ,surprised( yup! i got all kind of response)eyes.I walked into 11b first looking for Aparna.Loud Gasps, girly screams and more shocked faces.Aswathy screamed her way to me. "Alice!"..yeah i wish. But the closest thing that Alice Cullen and I have in common is the hair(hers is spikier and shorter) because Alice Cullen is a vampire and she's beautiful! The guys all seemed quite confused. They didn't like it. Hahah...

The Tie Tale

Today was the day of days.Terrible.At least till half day.I had bunked school yesterday in the pretext of fatigue and joints pain.Besides there was no water and electricity, so the morning things wouldn't be as easy as usual.I don't fancy going to school or rather anywhere wearing a crumpled shirt and yesterday's socks.Today morning I had nothing solid to complain about which is very irritating.I threw huge tantrums yelling unkind things about my new school and the people there. Our daily help 'Ammumma' as we call her affectionately, which means grandmother which indeed she is one, chuckled from the kitchen. She muttered something about 'just like when she was three' and went about the morning bustle.I stomped around the house like an angry bull snorting and raging madly. Then it slowly came down and I realised I just looked stupid screaming my head off.I knew Mummy,Ummar and Ammumma were secretly sniggering away at my irritability early at seven.          ...

Home is Where the Heart is..

There stands the lonely house. It is a beautiful thing with its ivory walls and polished doors and windows. It gleams pale gold in the afternoons. But the wrought iron gate is always shut.No one comes in or goes out. The windows are never opened. It stands all in glory like a cursed jewel no one will claim But there lives a strange family in this house. They say they are strange creatures. They are never heard speaking except for low moans and some kind of hissing. They have red eyes and their bodies are grey and have bony red feet. If you ask anyone they have never seen them. Then one day I saw them proud pigeons strutting about under the eaves. Few years back when my grandmother died, our ancestral home was abandoned. It was like a mansion amidst a clump of trees like one of those witch castles in old stories. My grandmother wasn't alone all those years. She had her trees and birds and snakes and all those tiny creatures to keep her company. They seem to know her only too well...
